Frequently asked questions

Does this upload my photo to a server?
No. The transform runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image data never leaves your device, so the tool works offline once the page is loaded and there's no privacy risk.
Counterclockwise vs clockwise - what's the difference?
Same magnitude of rotation, opposite direction. A 90° counterclockwise rotation moves the right edge to the top; clockwise moves the right edge to the bottom. If your photo is rotated the wrong way, try the opposite direction.
Is two rotations of 90° counterclockwise the same as 180°?
Yes - 90° + 90° in the same direction equals 180°. If you need to flip the photo upside down, our rotate-180 tool does it in one step without re-encoding twice.
Will rotating change the file format?
No. JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG, WebP stays WebP. The pixels are rearranged but the encoding stays the same as the source.
Does this respect EXIF orientation?
We respect EXIF orientation when decoding the source so you see the photo the way your camera intended. The rotation we apply is on top of that, written into the actual pixels of the output (so other apps without EXIF support also see the correct orientation).
Is there a file size limit?
Yes - 40 MB per image. Most phone photos are well under this limit. If your file is larger, compress it first with our compress tool.
