Frequently asked questions

What is a 1:1 aspect ratio?
A 1:1 ratio means the width and height are equal - a perfect square. Common sizes are 1080×1080 (Instagram), 800×800 (Etsy product), or 512×512 (avatar).
Does this resize the image too?
No - this tool only crops. The output keeps the pixel resolution of the cropped region. To resize after cropping, use our resize tool.
Will Instagram further crop my upload?
Instagram displays feed posts at 1:1 already, so a 1:1 crop will display exactly as you cropped it. Stories and Reels use 9:16 - use our crop-for-instagram tool for those.
Can I make a square crop with a different aspect later?
Once cropped to 1:1, the result is square. To get a different aspect, re-crop the original with the appropriate ratio - the tool is non-destructive on the source.
Is there a minimum image size?
Any image with both dimensions ≥100 px works. Below that the crop UI may be hard to use.
