Why use this online tool
Exact Instagram dimensions
Aspect locks to 1080×1080 (1:1), 1080×1350 (4:5), or 1080×1920 (9:16) so Instagram won't re-crop on upload.
More feed real-estate
4:5 portrait posts take up more screen than 1:1 squares - higher engagement on average.

When to use it
- Feed posts that need to look polished without Instagram auto-cropping awkward edges
- Portrait posts (4:5) that occupy more vertical screen space and drive more engagement
- Story and Reel cover thumbnails at 9:16 with the focal point centered
- Carousel posts where every slide needs the same exact aspect ratio
- Profile grid planning - keeping a consistent crop ratio across posts
Frequently asked questions
- What's the best aspect ratio for Instagram?
- For feed engagement, 4:5 portrait is the sweet spot - it takes up more screen space than 1:1 square but doesn't get cropped on upload like 9:16 does. Use 1:1 for grid consistency, 4:5 for max engagement, 9:16 for stories and Reels.
- Will Instagram still crop my image after this?
- No - if the aspect ratio matches one of the supported feed sizes (1:1, 4:5) or stories (9:16), Instagram displays it exactly as you uploaded it. This tool locks the aspect to those values.
- What pixel dimensions should I aim for?
- Instagram caps display at ~1080 px on the longest edge for most surfaces. Going higher than 1350 px tall on a 4:5 doesn't add visible quality. Going lower than 1080 looks soft on retina screens.
- Can I crop for stories specifically?
- Yes - pick the 9:16 preset. Stories and Reels use 9:16 (1080×1920). Instagram will not re-crop a 9:16 upload.
- Is the resolution preserved?
- Yes - the output keeps the native pixel density of the cropped region. Use our resize tool afterwards if you want to scale to an exact px size.
