Frequently asked questions
- Will I lose quality converting PNG to JPG?
- For photos, almost imperceptibly. PNG is lossless but inefficient for photos. JPG is lossy but optimized for photos - a 92%-quality JPG of a photo PNG is visually identical to the human eye, at a fraction of the file size.
- Why does PNG to JPG save so much space?
- PNG stores every pixel's exact value (great for screenshots, logos, transparent graphics). JPG groups similar pixels and discards imperceptible detail (great for photos with smooth gradients and natural color). For a photo, JPG's approach is essentially free quality-wise.
- Will the JPG have transparency?
- No - JPG doesn't support transparency. Transparent regions become white in the output. If you need transparency, use WebP instead, or keep the file as PNG.
- Should I always convert PNG to JPG?
- No. Use PNG for screenshots, logos, illustrations, anything with sharp edges or transparency. Use JPG for photos. Our tool tells you the size savings - if a PNG converts to a JPG that's only slightly smaller, the source probably wasn't photographic and PNG is the right format.
- Can I batch-convert multiple PNGs?
- Right now this tool processes one file at a time. Bulk conversion is on our roadmap. For multiple PNGs, repeat the convert-and-download flow.
- Does this work for PNGs with transparency?
- Yes - the tool detects transparent regions and replaces them with white in the output JPG. If you need to keep the alpha channel, choose PNG → WebP instead.
