How it works

  1. 1

    Drop your JPG file

Drag & drop or browse to upload. JPG / JPEG up to 40 MB.

  2. 2

    We re-encode it as PNG

Each pixel becomes lossless PNG data - no further JPG compression artefacts will be added on subsequent edits.

  3. 3

    Download the converted file

Compare original vs converted file size before saving. Open in the AI editor for further edits without re-uploading.

Why use this online tool

Stop compounding JPG loss

Every JPG re-save adds compression artefacts. Switch to PNG once and every later edit stays pixel-perfect.

100% browser-side

Your image never leaves your device. No upload, no server, no privacy risk.

Compatible everywhere

PNG is supported by every editor, browser, and OS - even older systems that struggle with WebP or HEIC.

Free, no watermark

Unlimited conversions, no signup, no overlay on the output.

When to use it

  • Editing source files - flip the JPG to PNG before you start, so subsequent saves stay lossless
  • Screenshots saved as JPG that should have been PNG (text and UI edges look crisper as PNG)
  • Source assets for design work - PNG is the safer parent format for layered edits
  • Archive or print masters where you want to lock in the current quality and never lose more
  • Compatibility with tools that prefer PNG for transparent overlays even though the JPG has none

Frequently asked questions

Does this upload my photo to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image data never leaves your device, so the tool works offline once the page is loaded and there's no privacy risk.
Will JPG to PNG actually improve quality?
Not visually - the JPG already lost detail when it was first encoded, and PNG can't recover what's gone. What PNG gives you is a stable parent file: every subsequent save stays exactly identical, instead of compounding more JPG loss with each edit.
Why is the PNG bigger than the JPG?
PNG is lossless and JPG is lossy - PNG stores every pixel exactly, JPG approximates groups of similar pixels. PNG of a photo is typically 5-10× larger than the JPG. That's expected and normal.
Will my JPG suddenly have transparency?
No. JPG can't store transparency, so the source has none to convert. The PNG output is fully opaque, just lossless. If you need to add a transparent area, use our editor's background-removal tool first.
Should I always convert JPG to PNG?
No. Use PNG only when you plan to do further editing or want a lossless archive. For final delivery and web display, JPG (or WebP) keeps the file size manageable. Convert to PNG as the parent, edit, then export back to JPG / WebP for distribution.
Can I batch-convert multiple files?
Right now this tool processes one file at a time. Bulk conversion is on our roadmap. For multiple files, repeat the convert-and-download flow.
