Why use this online tool

25-35% smaller files

WebP's modern compression beats JPG noticeably. A 1 MB JPG typically lands as a 650-750 KB WebP at the same visual quality.

Faster page loads

Smaller images = faster Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS). Google ranks pages partly on speed - the size cut helps SEO directly.

Browser-side, private

Conversion runs locally - your photo never touches a server.

Free, no signup

Convert as many JPGs as you want, no account needed.

When to use it

  • Speeding up website performance by serving WebP instead of JPG (with JPG fallback)
  • Reducing storage / bandwidth costs on cloud hosting and CDNs
  • Email attachments and Slack uploads that bump up against size limits
  • Bulk-converting blog post hero images for better Core Web Vitals scores
  • Keeping mobile data usage down on low-bandwidth connections

Frequently asked questions

Does this upload my photo to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image data never leaves your device, so the tool works offline once the page is loaded and there's no privacy risk.
How much smaller is WebP compared to JPG?
Typically 25-35% smaller at the same visual quality. A 2 MB JPG becomes roughly 1.3-1.5 MB WebP. For graphics with sharp edges, the savings can exceed 50%.
Do all browsers support WebP?
Yes - WebP has been supported in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari (iOS 14+ / macOS Big Sur+), Opera, and Samsung Internet for years. As of 2026, browser support is effectively universal. Older browsers / email clients may still need JPG as a fallback.
Will the WebP be visually identical to the JPG?
At 85% quality (our default), yes - the difference is below human perception for almost all photos. Drop to 75% or lower for further size savings if you're optimising for LCP / CLS aggressively.
Can I convert WebP back to JPG later?
Yes - we have a webp-to-jpg page that runs the inverse conversion. WebP is a fully reversible format choice.
Can I batch-convert multiple files?
Right now this tool processes one file at a time. Bulk conversion is on our roadmap. For multiple files, repeat the convert-and-download flow.
