Drag & drop or browse to upload. WebP up to 40 MB.

  2. 2

    We re-encode it as PNG

PNG output is lossless - every pixel of the WebP source is preserved exactly. Transparent regions stay transparent.

Why use this online tool

Compatible with everything

PNG is supported by every editor, browser, and OS - including older Adobe (CS5/CS6), legacy CMSes, and tools that reject WebP.

Lossless conversion

Every pixel of the WebP source is preserved exactly. No compression artefacts added by the conversion itself.

Transparency kept

WebP's alpha channel maps directly to PNG's alpha channel - transparent regions stay transparent.

Browser-side, private

No upload, no server, no privacy risk. Your file stays on your device.

When to use it

  • Opening WebP saves in older Photoshop versions (CS5 / CS6) that lack WebP support
  • Uploading to legacy CMSes or web platforms that still reject WebP
  • Sending images to clients on older Microsoft Office versions
  • Importing into print-shop tools or DTP software that hasn't added WebP yet
  • Using as Photoshop / Affinity / GIMP source files when you want maximum tool compatibility

Frequently asked questions

Does this upload my photo to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image data never leaves your device, so the tool works offline once the page is loaded and there's no privacy risk.
Why is the PNG bigger than the WebP?
PNG is lossless and WebP can be lossy - PNG stores every pixel exactly, WebP approximates them with smarter compression. PNG of a converted WebP is typically 3-5ร— larger. That's expected; you trade size for compatibility.
Is the conversion lossless?
Yes. PNG re-encodes the decoded pixels of the WebP exactly, so no quality is added or removed. Whatever quality the source WebP carried (lossy or lossless), the PNG preserves what was decoded.
Does this work for animated WebP files?
Currently we convert only the first frame. Animated PNG (APNG) support is on our roadmap. For animated WebP โ†’ animated GIF, use our editor's GIF export.
Why would anyone need WebP to PNG?
Compatibility. Photoshop CS5/CS6 doesn't support WebP. Some print shops, legacy CMSes, and niche software still reject it. PNG is the universal fallback - it works everywhere with zero quality loss.
Can I batch-convert multiple files?
Right now this tool processes one file at a time. Bulk conversion is on our roadmap. For multiple files, repeat the convert-and-download flow.
