Frequently asked questions

Does this upload my photo to a server?
No. The crop runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image data never leaves your device, so the tool works offline once the page is loaded and there's no privacy risk.
Why is 9:16 the standard for mobile video?
Most phones held in portrait orientation have a 9:16 screen aspect (or close to it - some are 19:9 / 19.5:9 but apps still display 9:16 content full-width with letterboxing on the rest).
Can I use this for IGTV / long-form Instagram?
Yes - 9:16 covers IGTV thumbnails too. The same aspect works across Stories, Reels, IGTV, TikTok, Shorts, and Snapchat without further re-cropping.
Will I lose quality after cropping?
No. Cropping is a pure pixel-removal operation - the kept pixels stay byte-identical. JPG re-encoding can introduce minor compression, so we encode at high quality (≥0.92) by default.
Does this resize the image too?
No - this tool only crops. The output keeps the pixel resolution of the cropped region. To resize after cropping, use our resize tool or open the result in the AI editor.
