Frequently asked questions

Does this upload my photo to a server?
No. The crop runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image data never leaves your device, so the tool works offline once the page is loaded and there's no privacy risk.
Why is 4:5 the 'best' Instagram aspect?
It's the tallest portrait Instagram lets you upload without auto-cropping. 9:16 gets cropped to 4:5 in the feed; 4:5 displays at its full height, taking up more screen real estate per scroll - which translates to more time-on-post and higher engagement on average.
Will 4:5 also work on Twitter / Facebook?
Yes - 4:5 displays cleanly on Twitter (it'll just have side padding) and Facebook (no cropping). For platform-tailored crops use crop-for-instagram or our other platform pages.
Will I lose quality after cropping?
No. Cropping is a pure pixel-removal operation - the kept pixels stay byte-identical. JPG re-encoding can introduce minor compression, so we encode at high quality (≥0.92) by default.
Does this resize the image too?
No - this tool only crops. The output keeps the pixel resolution of the cropped region. To resize after cropping, use our resize tool or open the result in the AI editor.
