Frequently asked questions

Does this upload my photo to a server?
No. The crop runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image data never leaves your device, so the tool works offline once the page is loaded and there's no privacy risk.
What does YouTube require for thumbnails?
YouTube requires 16:9 aspect, 1280×720 minimum (1920×1080 recommended), under 2 MB, in JPG / PNG / GIF / BMP. Our crop nails the aspect; use our compress tool if your file is over 2 MB after cropping.
Will the YouTube progress bar cover important parts?
The bottom 12-15% of the thumbnail can get covered by the duration timestamp and player controls in some embeds. Keep faces, text, and key visuals in the upper 85%.
Is this the same as the YouTube Studio in-app cropper?
Same end result, but our tool runs entirely in your browser without uploading - faster for repeated crops and works before you even open Studio. You can also continue editing the crop in our AI editor for background removal or upscaling.
Will I lose quality after cropping?
No. Cropping is a pure pixel-removal operation - the kept pixels stay byte-identical. JPG re-encoding can introduce minor compression, so we encode at high quality (≥0.92) by default.
