Why use this online tool

Smooth radial fall-off

Quadratic ramp from centre to corners - never a hard ring. The fall-off feels natural / cinematic rather than 'spotlight stamped on'.

When to use it

  • Portraits where corner darkening draws the eye to the subject's face
  • Travel photos with busy edges that benefit from gentle peripheral darkening
  • Vintage / film aesthetic where natural lens vignetting is part of the look
  • Product shots focusing attention on the centre item
  • Wedding album photos with a soft, romantic editorial feel

Frequently asked questions

Does this upload my photo to a server?
No. The adjustment runs entirely in your browser using direct ImageData pixel manipulation. Your image never leaves your device.
Why vignette instead of just darkening corners manually?
Drawing dark corners by hand is fiddly and rarely smooth. The vignette slider applies a radial mask with a smooth quadratic fall-off - the corners darken progressively from the centre outward, looking natural rather than stamped on.
Can I make the vignette white instead of dark?
This widget darkens only - white / 'high-key' vignettes are uncommon and tend to look 'sticker-stamped' rather than cinematic. For high-key effects, use our AI editor's gradient overlay tool.
Why doesn't the centre lighten too much?
Our vignette only DARKENS toward the edges - the centre stays exactly as captured. Some tools 'compensate' by brightening the centre, but that introduces clipping in the middle. We chose corner-only darkening for cleaner results.
Can I reset to the original?
Yes - drop the slider to 0 (or whichever value means 'no change' for this control) to see the original. The source is never modified - the tool always operates on a copy.
Can I stack multiple adjustments?
In this widget, one slider at a time. For stacked edits (e.g. brightness + contrast + saturation), use our AI editor where multiple adjustments live side-by-side as non-destructive layers.
